Signal – Troubleshooting of installations or updates

Signal – Troubleshooting of installations or updates

Android

Confirm that Signal is supported by your system.
Signal on Android requires at least Android 4.4.
Check your Internet connection.
For best results, connect to Wi-Fi before downloading.
Does Signal display “Installed” but not “Open”?
If Signal is installed on your phone then the Google Play page will display “Uninstall” and “Open”.
If you see “Installed” then it looks like you are using a different Google Play account than the one on your phone. Make sure you are logged in to the correct Google account for the library.
Is there a space shortage alert on your device?
You will need to free up space in your phone’s internal memory. You may need to uninstall other applications to free up space. A minimum of 50 MB is recommended for installation and updating.
Is Signal blocked during installation or download?
Make sure you have enough free memory on your device, as specified in the previous steps.
For more information, please consult the Google Support Center.
Do you see any error codes?
Remove the Google Play app from the cache. Go to Android Settings > Applications or Application Management > All > Google Play > Clear Cache > OK
Check the Google Support Center for additional help.

iOS

Apple controls downloads and installations for all iPhone apps. For more information, visit the Apple Support Center.

Confirm that Signal is supported by your iOS.
Signal for iOS requires a minimum of 10.0.
What if I can’t touch the “Install” button or it’s faded?
Try connecting your phone to your computer and finish syncing your applications with iTunes.
What if Signal is stuck on “Install” or “Standby” on my phone?
It looks like you’re running out of space on your phone. You’ll need to free some memory and then you’ll be able to access the app from the software library to finish, or restart the updates of your app.
What if the iTunes Store asks for a password or a payment?
Signal is free. This happens for all the apps you try to download and is not unique to Signal. The iTunes Store and your settings require you to sign in to download.
What if the store page only shows “Open”, but I don’t have the latest version?
It looks like you’re connected to your iPhone with a different Apple ID than the one you used when you first downloaded Signal.
Go to the App Store on your iPhone.
Tap your profile image in the top corner.
Touch Purchased > My Purchases > Select the Not tab on this iPhone.
Confirm that Signal is on your iPhone or not.
To receive updates with this Apple ID, uninstall Signal, then install a new version while you are logged in with the correct Apple ID for this phone. Note: Uninstalling Signal will clear your message history.

Computer

Confirm that Signal is installed on your Android or iOS device.
Signal Desktop for PC must be connected to Signal for Android or Signal for iOS to be usable.
Confirm that Signal Desktop for PC is supported by your OS.
Signal Desktop for Computer requires at least :
Windows 64-bit: 7, 8, 8.1 and 10
macOS 10.12 and later
64-bit versions of Linux that support APT, such as Ubuntu or Debian.
What if Signal hasn’t been updated on my Mac?
If your user is not an administrator, there may be an additional prompt that tells you that you cannot update Signal. For non-admin users, look for and open ~/Applications
step2findernonadminuserdirectory.png
